This blog has been running, inconstantly, for close to 18 years now, existing in this location for almost 16 years. It's finally time to branch out a little bit more and there is now a companion podcast to the blog.
The idea of the podcast is to pick three new anime each season and do a week by week critique of each show between myself and a co-host. Both hosts will pick one show to watch, with an emphasis on picking a show that the other host may not normally watch or outright distance themself from. The third series is a title that both host's agree on and have a high level of enthusiasm for. Another idea behind the podcast and the selection of my co-host is to showcase the vastly different experiences in the world of anime. By this point I have been knowingly, actively consuming anime for 32 years. David, the co-host, is a relatively new otaku, having only seriously starting to consume anime a year ago. I have my jaded, seen anything new mentality and David is a spring chicken, with bright eyes looking at all the sparkling marvels.
The first season is starting in conjunction with the 2024 Spring cour and will be released weekly. Due to a slight delay in the first episode being published, the second episode should come out a little quicker, working to have a release schedule to is closer to the broadcast schedules for all three shows.
The three shows that were chosen for the first season of the podcast are:
The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio
This series was my secondary choice. My original choice was the bike racing anime Rinkai!, unfortunately this series was not picked up for distribution in North America and I didn't want to risk relying on the fansubs to be available in a timely manner.
Re:Monster
This is the co-host Davids choice, largely based on my personal dislike of isekai in general.
Astro Note
This was the agreed upon series and was pretty easy for both of us to agree on, which brings nothing by joy to me as I really want to talk about this show a lot!
For the time being the podcast will be hosted on Spotify and the Otaku Network YouTube Channel.
