We'll just do this in the order they were listed earlier. Here's my take on the new anime I decided to watch for the Summer Season of 2015.
Charlotte: The concept of this show is that a small percentage of adolescents develop a special ability that goes away once they leave puberty. Yu discovers he has the ability to momentarily trade bodies with someone else. He decides to use his gift to cheat his way into one of the area's best high schools, earning himself the top position in his grade and the accolades of his peers. His dreams come crashing down just as he is about to make his move on the best girl in school when he is confronted about his cheating. Two students from a specialty school have sniffed out his ability and want him to transfer...well they are actually forcing him to transfer. The two students are Nao, who has the ability to make herself invisible from one person of her choosing. And Jojiro who has a rapis teleportation ability. They force Yu and his brainless, but endearing, younger sister to enroll in their school and move to a different mansion.
So this series in semi interesting, and has some good humor to it. There is this evil darkness lurking in the background. The darkness comes from the fact that people responsible or Kannon and Air are behind this one. After two episodes though it lacks any harem tendencies and the character designs are far better than those alien girls from Clannad. So for now I'll stick with it, it seems fun. I am also waiting for it to get dark...something tells me it's not going to be cheery and humorous for its duration.
Classroom Crisis: In the future mankind has been able to colonize the solar system. Select students/employees of the Kirishima Corporation on Mars are part of a super special division of the school/factory known as A-TEC. The division has existed since the companies modest beginnings as the brain of two students, who developed the technology to travel the solar system fast enough to allow colonization. The A-TEC members are the best and brightest left to focus on developing cutting edge technology. The current A-TEC members however suddenly find their class marked as the last in their line. One of the heirs of the company has been transferred as their section chief/classmate, and it tasked with closing the division down. The misfit team of geniuses must try to keep the tradition of A-TEC alive and convince the hard nosed heir apparent that its not in the companies interest to close the classroom down.
This wasn't anything like what I was expected and after two episodes I can say it has been very enjoyable. The cast of characters reminds me of a style from the mid and late 90's, particularly the Nuku Nuku TV series. The show just feels like a throwback, story wise, to that era of anime and its welcome in my book. Nice to have a story about a misfit class of specialists that isn't full of nauseating Jump tropes...looking at you Ass Class.
Danchigai:This is based on a yonkoma manga about a guy and his four sisters. Its cute, sacchrine cute and I really don't know if it will remain on the plate for viewing. Even though its only a few minutes per episode it seems to be pointless and not worth my time.
Durarara!! x2 Ten (part 2): The return of the second series of DRRR. The last episode of the first cour ended with everything being up in the air around Ikebukuro. Shit is seriously about to start hitting all sorts of fans in the second cour, which very well may be the last new anime we see out of this excellent series.
What can I say, I'm giddy as hell that DRRR is back and running full speed. Since this will probably be the last of it, unless perhaps a movie pops up, I am going to savor every second of it while I can!
Gakko Gurashi:Four sickeningly cute girls are part of the 'School Living' club. Yuki is the air-headed main character who enjoys every moment of her life at school, especially the exploits with her club members. Her classmates enjoy her exploits as well but friendlily make fun of her idiotic ways. There's just one problem...and saying what it is would ruin one of the best surprises on an anime in a long time. At some point these cutesy girls are going to have to face hordes of zombies!
I knew about the zombie thing going into it, but I didn't realize the way they introduced the zombies and it was amazingly well done and left me reeling a bit. I was really getting annoyed with the boring escapades of the first episode, but then it all turned around. This could very well be a highly entertaining series that exploits the moe character designs in a good way.
Himoto! Umaru-chan: Domo Umaru is the perfect high school student. Smart, athletically competent, beautiful, friendly, patient, humble. Everyone loves her where ever she goes, people on the street confuse her for a model. Little do they know what she is really like when she closes the door to the apartment she shares with her older brother. In the privacy of her on home she is a slothful, childish otaku, demanding everything of her brother. Caring for nothing beyond anime, vieo games, surfing the net and stuffing her face with junk food. If she doesn't get her way she employes a wide playbook of toddler like retributions and demands.
This, so far with one episode, is highly enjoyable. I do fear the spark of the show could ware of pretty quick with the episodes being full length. It may work better and have longevity if it was done in 3 or 5 minute installments like many other yonkoma based anime these days. Until it sours and becomes boring I will keep watching and enjoying it.
Kurayama Santa: Santa has been chosen by one of the lords of Hell to go to the living world and pass judgement on humans. This dark and apparently twisted short ONA series works painstakingly hard to capture the essence of anime from the 60's, right down to splicing in and over laying archival live action footage. This is pretty cool and I look forward to seeing exactly what kind of formula the story telling will display.
Sore ga Seiyu: Futaba is a beginner voice actor and the job is stressful when you aren't confident. She has to deal with her dreams of being a popular seiyu when her inability to interact with people in a way that makes them respect her cause issues. Stumbling over lines, over doing things due to nervousness and generally making a fool of her self.
This series is based on and from the creator of Hayate the Combat Butler. Its like Shirobako, but aimed more at otaku that that series was. I actually had a hard time getting through the first episode, it was tedious and cringe worthy. The main character is an idiot and its not a good quality. If the entire series is set up to show her being this adorable moron only to capture her dream I will check out early.
Wakako-zake: A short anime series about a single office lady who loves nothing more than to go to local bars and sample various alcohol and food combination. Whats not to love! Seriously, that's what it is, take it or leave it. I like it but respect its not for a lot of people.
This season is actually pretty decent, with a few modest surprises. I need to still watch all of the first episode of Gangster and am mildly intrigued by the things I am hearing about Auharu x Machinegun. Though something tells me neither of those will stay in my cue for long.
