Mokuyobi Post - Vampire Hunter D

Vampire Hunter D is a sci-fi horror movie based on a light novel series of the same name.  The original movie was released in Japan in 1985.

Thousands of years in the future the world is plagued with vampires and other gothic horrors.  When a maiden is attacked by an ancient vampire lord she hires the mysterious vampire hunter D to help protect her from the vampires attempts to make her his bride.  After some set backs and back stabs D faces down the ancient evil.

OK, this one is another of the classic anime from the early days of American otaku-hood.  The animation is dated, but its from the mid-80's so it's understandable.  This movie is in the pantheon of perfection for older American otaku.  My thoughts on it are meh.  It was OK I guess when I first saw it in the mid 90's but it didn't really do much for me.  It was more a point of conversation with other otaku at that point.  Everyone had seen it.  I was never interested in watching any follow up anime that came out over the years and can't remember if I still own this on VHS.  I would say check it out if you have not seen it to form your own opinion on one of the most highly regarded movies from the 2nd wave of anime otaku in the US.

It was released in North America in 1993 and is still easy to come across in DVD format.  There was a follow up around the turn of the millennium called Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust.
