Mokuyobi Post - Fist of the North Star

Fist of the North Star, as North America originally knows it, is a post apocalyptic action movie compiled from episodes of the TV version of the manga of the same name by Buronson.  The original TV series aired in Japan between 1984 and 1987.

A world wide nuclear war has left the planet devastated.  The survivors band together to try and repopulate the world.  Bands of gangs pillage settlements and make travel dangerous.  Kenshiro, the air to a powerful martial art, ends up being disabled by Raoh, from the same school, in a battle over control of the martial arts.  Kenshiro is left for dead and his woman is stolen.  Slowly he heals himself and searches the scorched planet for Raoh to destroy him and gain back his honor and woman.

This is one of the classic anime movies from the 1st wave of anime in North America.  Long on the list of otaku from the first wave and the second wave in the US.  It was notorious for its crazed battle scenes and larger than life antagonists.  Yet, I really hate this movie and the subsequent TV series.  The animation is HORRIBLE!!!  This series is one of the mold makers when it comes to how action sequences in shonen series are animated.  Don't like how the fight scenes in Naruto look?  You can blame First of the North Star for some of that.  The landscape makes you think of one of the best post-apocalyptic movies ever, Road Warrior.  Even some of the characters do too...but this pales in comparison to that epic classic.

The original mash up of a movie and subsequent release of the original TV series and follow up series' are apparently semi-available in North America.  There's an

audience for this title, I'm just not a member of it.  I think I ended up giving away my VHS copy of it from back in the day before I knew better...I still want a refund.
