Pai is the last of a species of beings called sanjiyan who had lived in Tibet and retain special powers with a third eye located in their forehead. Pai has come to Japan to seek the help of the son of an archeologist, named Yakumo, that she had befriended. With the archeologist dead she needs his Yakumo's help to find an artifact that will allow her to become human. While searching for him thieves steal some items from her, coincidentally Yakumo jumps to help her. During the chase Yakumo is gravely injured. Pai, afraid to loose her last hope, restores him with her powers as a sort of undead servant. Now, tied to the mysterious girl until she becomes human Yakumo must help her track down the thing that will make her human and restore him as well. If finding the item isn't hard enough there are forces that are after the item and Pai.
This was a pretty well known anime in the 90s that seems to have faded into the mists of history. The animation and production are dated but the story concept was original for the time, even if somewhat influenced by Buddhist lore. The worst part of this original OVA series was that it didn't end. There was a follow up 3 part OVA series that came out in 1994, but I don't remember if this put a conclusion on the story either.
